This enables us to not only look at the surface of the retina, but also the layers underneath, allowing us to detect early signs of diseases and conditions such as macular degeneration and glaucoma, possibly before you experience any symptoms.

The use of drops to dilate your pupils isn’t necessary for this scan and you are required to look into the scanner, rest you chin on a rest and to fixate on a marker for a short while whilst the scan is carried out. The multi-layered scans show different levels of the retina which will be assessed by your optometrist and explained to you, if you wish.
